It is unfortunate that many men and some women of bad fate in many southern states of America have deliberately distorted the theme of the debate about the moral rationale of termination of pregnancy by women who inadvertently got pregnant and unprepared to assume motherhood role and mix it up with those who have planned their motherhood and embarked on the joyful process but encounters severe complications along the way. The distortion is not only life threatening to the entire population of pregnant women but could cause instability in the health and wellness of many families. The ideological debate has always been on the narrow aspect of deliberate termination of pregnancy due to rape, incest, young age, social, and economic reasons. The current assault on all pregnant women, especially those with planned and wanted pregnancies who were unfortunate to encounter pregnancy related complications is worrisome and most times flagrant display of cruelty and disregard of the lives of pregnant women by the government.
It is sad to watch current reckless exposure of pregnant women to severe injuries or death through the banning of standard definitive medical interventions of severe complications of normal pregnancy in the name of abortion ban. The most concerning aspects of the ban is that it is carried out by mostly men and few women of primitive ideologies and self-acclaimed righteous religious hypocrites who believe that pregnant women are expendable and replaceable with dead fetus and fetus that is incompatible with life. The most difficult aspect of the exposure of pregnant women to preventable injuries and death is that it is supported by some men and women in the medical profession who knows better or should know better and who should be in a better position to educate the health illiterate members of their ideological communities.
It is natural that some parts of our body could experience malfunction and may require medical intervention to prevent harm to the part of the body undergoing malfunction as well as to prevent collateral injuries to other parts of the body. In addition, some parts of our body might become severely injured that it could not be medically remedied and the treatment could be to remove that part of the body to save the remaining parts of the entire body so that the individual could continue to live life without pain and suffering. This is why we have organ removal, limb amputation etc. I have not seen any laws requiring termination of the life of a person to save the person’s diseased organ or limb.
Similarly, normal physiological process of pregnancy could encounter natural complications and the medical profession has intervention protocols to handle the complications to save the pregnant mother and the unborn fetus or baby inside her. There is no known medical intervention process that requires a healthy pregnant mother’s life to be terminated first so that the fetus or child inside her could be born alive or dead. There are medical intervention protocols in place to terminate a pregnancy with fatal fetal complications, malformation, and other incompatibilities with life that threaten the life of the pregnant mother or other co-existing fetus in the same pregnancy (e.g., twin pregnancy). In the same token, if a pregnant mother experiences irreversible fatal medical event that causes her death (e.g., automobile accident), the unborn baby inside her could be saved through medical intervention if it is medically possible to survive outside the womb. The laws currently being implemented in many states directly or indirectly stipulates expending the life of a healthy pregnant mother so that a fetus that is incompatible with life can be born. The law is not only cruel, but abominable.
Some of those who craft and impose the banning of standard medical intervention that save lives of pregnant women with fatal fetal complications cite religious beliefs as the moral backing for their actions. By so doing, they adopt or assume godly role and then decide for everybody in the society which life is more precious to save and which life should be expended. Regrettably, some of these self-acclaimed righteous religious men and women practice the same faith as many members of the public and manifest in broad day light with behaviors and actions that are antithetical to the fate they claim. They shall be called the hypocrites of the 21st century.
